Penang 2D1N
03rd October 2009
5:35am @ Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 1... departing for Penang on JetStar flight... this trip is partial leisure partial business~
(Side track a little... if you'd notice this booth at the airport, you can have your luggage securely wrapped up in plastic for as little as S$10.00.)
9:40am... arrival @ G-Hotel Penang~!
G-Hotel's lobby in the morning~
You can check out their wonderful website at www.ghotel.com.my
The usual card access... you'll need this card to access the guest floors via the lift. Very nice level of security there...
Executive Room @ Room 1415~ comes with a King-size bed and a spectacular sea-view~
Room was very spacious~ comes with a mini-bar, a mini hi-fi with an iPod dock, broadband and WiFi access... 30" TV, and a security safe in the closet...
Huge bathroom too~ with a generous offer of toiletries... (there's a hair-dryer and a facial mirror mounted on the wall beside, not in this photo).
Lack of a bathtub is the only minus point (unless they have the Sun-Flower showerhead above the ceiling like the one at Dorsett Hotel in JB)
The bathroom is covered in gorgeous marble flooring... which makes using the potty here a pretty shivering experience...
Pull the curtains and turned up all the lights for the most comfortable ambiance~ that couch beside the bed is those that you makes you go "Oooohh~" type...
Being at the 14th floor means I have a great view of Penang's coast...
12:12pm~ heading out for lunch~ Gurney Plaza is right at the doorstep of G-Hotel~
Rows of nice restaurants lined the perimeters of Gurney Plaza... great for the evening alfresco ppl~
The plaza in between the shopping mall and the hotel~ some bazaar going on there...
12:42pm~ Lunch at Sushi King Japanese restaurant...
Japanese food never bores me~
Sushi King packs some very interesting sushi varieties I've never seen in Singapore~ Here's a simple Cheddar Cheese Sushi~
This one packs wasabi and crabstick~ love the colour~ tastes good too~
Golden Ball~ soft on the inside and crispy on the outside~
Inari Burger~
Inari Tuna sushi~
Sashimi Moriwase~ fresh and succulent slices~
My Japanese meals always have fried ebi tempura~ Sushi King does it good by serving the tempura sauce steamy hot. Thumbs up.
Hotate Miso soup~ yummy~
Garlic rice was so-so~ I've tasted better ones~
Chawamushi always tastes great~
3:54pm~ @ the famous Ghee Hiang place (215 Macalister Road, Penang)...
sells very good Tau Sa Piah and a variety of many other local Chinese pastries~
since year 1856~
4:46pm~ back shopping at Gurney Plaza shopping mall again~ the mall is filled with famous brands and restaurants~ there's even a Cinema at the top level~ 10 storeys of shopping~
6:26pm~ the famous Gurney Drive Hawker Food Street~
the crowd starts to pour in from 6:00pm onwards, but a sudden torrential rain kept the hawkers busy setting out the giant umbrellas~
It started drizzling when I reached there and many customers could be seen evacuating the place for shelter~ I was lucky to have grabbed an umbrella at the hotel lobby before coming out here...
Char Kway Teow was beckoning me... I just couldn't leave...
=D~ the famous Penang Char Kway Teow!
only RM 4.00~the hawkers were still preparing the ingredients...
Grill Fish stall calling out to me too...
Grilled stingray at only RM 8.00 (where can you find such cheap price in SG?!)
all this while~ this uncle from the fruit juice stall beside me was like holding on to this umbrella at my table... cuz when the wind blows, the umbrella will fly~
the supposedly crowded Food Street was pretty much empty at 7:03pm due to the rain~
There were so many stalls there that my stomach didn't have the space for all of them~ thats Kway Teow Thng and McTucky Fried Chicken stall...
Yes... I repeat: McTucky Fried Chicken... anyone working for McDonald's wanna inform your boss to get a lawyer?
The famous Penang's Assam Laksa! Only Rm 4.00~ This is on the "OMG~ TASTY" level~ look for the stall that have a Fried Oyster stall on the left...
... and here's the Fried Oyster~ Rm 3.00... so so only~
Best Penang Rojak (thats the stall name... u'll see other adjectives like 'Famous', 'Authentic', 'Original' Penang Rojak as stall names there... pretty confusing... kekeke)...
Didn't have the chance to try the Fried Lok Lok there... for those who likes fried skewered stuffs~
Had a plate of Rojak at Rm 4.00~
7:48pm~ G-Hotel and Gurney Plaza at night~ it was Mid-Autumn Festival that evening~ but the rain clouds blocked out the moon...
G-Hotel's lobby in the evening~
the lights changes~
very nice ambiance there~
04th October 2009
10:17am @ the Executive Lounge~ Breakfast time! G-Hotel lets guests staying at the Executive Floors a choice of having breakfast either at the Executive Lounge at level 15, or ground floor at the G-Cafe~ Nope, my croissant isn't charred, it was covered with fruity seeds~ tastes great!
1:42pm~ already checked out of the hotel~ but having my last cup of mocha at the Executive Lounge and enjoying the sea view up there...
another part of the Lounge gives a view of the hills behind Penang~
One last photo of the Gurney Drive Coast~
Afar, that's the Gurney Drive roundabout~
Just right beside the roundabout is that famous Hawker street I had dinner at last evening~ just 5minutes walk away~
4:47pm~ waiting for my 5pm flight back to Singapore~
